VideoBlocks, the royalty-free stock video company, has officially launched Marketplace, a new section of its site that allows members to purchase premium clips directly from its contributors. The company takes no commission on Marketplace sales, passing on the savings to customers.

The new Marketplace Library will benefit VideoBlocks customers — indie producers, hobbyists, freelancers and enthusiasts — who don’t have much in the way of production budgets.

They pay about $99 per year for downloads from VideoBlocks’ Unlimited Library, which offers more than $10 million worth of HD video clips, After Effects templates, motion backgrounds and lower thirds (title area near the bottom of the screen). The option to buy individual clips directly from contributors in the new, separate Marketplace Library is for members only.

VideoBlocks announced last fall that Marketplace contributors would receive 100 percent of commissions from every sale and bring in an additional 200,000 clips from more than 1,000 contributors.

Similar to an Amazon Prime arrangement, a $99 yearly subscription gives customers a slate of available content, but the new supplementary market of additional clips will sell for $49 per clip, of which the creator keeps the full amount.

Subscribers get unlimited access to the entire media library, and the new inventory will be integrated into search queries and differentiated by fee.

VideoBlocks will continue to add new content to its Unlimited Library as well. Marketplace clips go for $49 per HD clip, $199 for 4K, and $19 to $49 for a template.
