It’s not exactly news to hear that politicians will vote in favor of, or support the ambitions of, corporations or individuals that have contributed to their campaigns. But it’s pretty disturbing to see that the politicians themselves are letting those corporations write letters to a government entity on their behalf and all they have to do is add a signature.
The Verge reports that Comcast has been ghost writing letters to the FCC that overwhelmingly support its merger with Time Warner Cable. In one instance, Roswell, Georgia mayor, Jere Wood only added a signature and sign off line to a letter that was penned by a vice president of Comcast external affairs.
Comcast contributed nearly $10,000 to two of Mayor Wood’s campaigns.
It’s not just Comcast and politicians that are working making the merger seem like a great idea. The finishing touches of another letter were added by a former FCC official.
Now when you pay your Comcast bill, at least you’ll know where some of the money could end up.
