Some Twitter users have awoken to find that their activity streams are filled with a new ‘Trending’ TV box as the social network tests out new ways to monetize the service and drive higher usage.

The feature displays current popular TV shows as cards in a user’s Twitter timeline and links through to more information about the show and the people in it.

Spotted via TechCrunch, courtesy of Twitter user ASG, the feature seems to only have been rolled out to a select number of people; how many, and how they were selected is unknown. Interestingly, ASG said the feature only seems to appear when viewing Twitter via the iOS app, rather than from a desktop.

TNW hasn’t got this feature yet, have you?
