A lot was announced at Twitter’s Chirp conference yesterday.

The big stuff
- Twitter is taking geolocation to the next level and will associate tweets with specific landmarks. Rather than just a grid reference, it could identify that there are tweets coming from named restaurant, bar, park etc. Read more details and read our analysis
- From next quarter, metadata will be able to added to tweets. Think “invisible hashtags” but with a lot more flexibility. Read more details
- Following controversy over Twitter’s handling of its developer community, the company is launching dev.twitter.com, a site that will focus on developer relations. Read more
- Twitter unveiled its development roadmap. The buzzwords: Proximity, User Streams, Annotations, @Anywhere (see below) and Communication. Read more
- The Library of Congress in Washington D.C. will hold the official Twitter archive, with every tweet ever published archived for posterity, and made available for non-commercial research. Read more
- After first unveiling it at South By South West recently, Twitter officially launched its @Anywhere platform, allowing third party websites to integrate directly into Twitter with Follow buttons, tweeting directly from other websites and more. Launch partners include Google, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Foursquare and Gowalla. Read more
- Twitter announced full details of its ‘Promoted Tweets‘ monteziation strategy, insisting that they weren’t simply ads. Key to their success, and their unique selling point, will be the ‘resonance’ of the tweets. Read more
- Twitter is to launch its own URL shortener, although it hasn’t decided what domain it will use. Read more
- Twitter might bring media sharing directly into its core service. Look out Twitpic, yFrog etc… Read more

- “Bieber Fever” hit Chirp. Fans of teen pop sensation Justin Bieber searching for his Twitter account accidentally stumbled upon Justin.tv’s video stream from Chirp and spammed the chat channel asking where Bieber was. Read more
