Twitter starts rolling out brand pages to UK businesses

Twitter has begun rolling out more brand pages for some businesses in the UK, according to the company’s head of UK PR Rachel Bremer. Now if you go to the Twitter profile of Cadbury, EA Sports FIFA, Asda or Sky HD, you’ll see the new format:

Twitter introduced the new pages in December of last year, with a focus that seemed to be on discovery. The new format also allowed brands to develop marketing pages of their own, in line with Facebook Pages. With rich content, customizable banner advertisements and the ability to “stick” a tweet to the top of the page as a constant message to visitors.

The buy-in isn’t cheap. Brands are required to pay $25,000 to advertise on Twitter, but there’s at least no additional cost for the page. But with a massively increasing base of users, Twitter seems to be the method of choice for brands to communicate on the fly with their customers.

Considering a brand page for your company? As TNW’s Nancy Messieh notes, you only have one chance to make your impression with your customers so you’d better do it right. We’ve contacted Twitter’s communications folks to see if they’ll give us an idea about further rollouts, but we don’t have any details just yet.

UPDATE: Twitter has given us a more comprehensive list of other advertisers and partner organizations who are rolling out enhanced profiles and they include: @nprnews, @nbcnews, @huffingtonpost, @ajenglish, @vw, and @anobii.
