TNW’s Apps of the Year: Giphy knows just what you’re trying to say

TNW’s Apps of the Year: Giphy knows just what you’re trying to say

In our Apps of the Year series, The Next Web team shares personal recommendations for our favorite apps of 2015.

As the English language continues its inevitable decline into a series of patterned grunts and not-so-subtle gestures, Giphy might just be the app that leads the charge.

I don’t mind a bit.

Sometimes it’s just easier to communicate in GIF format (or is it JIF?) rather than spewing the same tired canned phrases again and again. These days, if I can’t say it in an emoji or a TNW post, it’s probably best left unsaid, or at least said in fewer than 140 characters.

I mean, I write for a living. Why not let Giphy handle the heavy lifting when I’m off the clock? Or, when I’m on the clock for that matter. A 10 minute snoop through TNW’s Slack and you’ll see that I’m not alone.

Writers, it appears, actually hate words when they’re not using them to craft carefully sculpted messages for your viewing pleasure.

Or, maybe it’s just the fun that Giphy brings to the conversation. I’ll never be sure.

Giphy brings us together in a way that mere words could never do.

It knows our triumphs.

Giphy is the friend we never had, the one that’s articulate, charming and just damn good at explaining our feels far better than we can.

Giphy, I love you.
