Timely’s timesheet-killing iPhone app gets a new look, widget support and more

Timely’s timesheet-killing iPhone app gets a new look, widget support and more

Last December, we brought you news on an app called Timely, a Web and iOS-based time-tracker that promises to banish the pain of filling out timesheets and paperwork by scheduling how time will be spent in advance.

Ten months on, the company claims 19,000 businesses and 35,000 individuals are using the app, “without a single dime spent on marketing,” it says. Now, Timely has been given a major overhaul.

The most obvious change when you first boot the app up is the new look, which also now sports funky animations when moving from page-to-page.

Digging a little deeper, with iOS 8 and Yosemite now in the fold, Timely has introduced a new Handoff Widget, letting users open the app on their iPhone or Web with a touch or click. There’s also a new Today Widget that makes starting and pausing timers a cinch, from wherever you are on your phone.

The app has essentially been rebuilt from the ground up, and as such now features a real-time syncing engine. This means you can start a timer on your iPhone, and stop it from the Web. Conversely, you can add fresh entries from the Web app, and they will appear in the iPhone incarnation as if by magic.
