Camera manufacturer Olympus is celebrating its 80th anniversary by releasing a heritage-style camera that boasts style and high specs.
The new PEN-F Digital channels the retro design of the original 1963 PEN camera, but brings with it the technology of the company’s more advanced devices, as well as introducing some new features.
Priced at $1,200, the PEN-F is packing a 20.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor and a TruePic VII processor, alongside a built-in 5-axis image stabilizing function.
And you can see what you’re capturing on the adjustable 3-inch rear LCD touch-screen panel or by using the high-resolution OLED electronic viewfinder.
The PEN-F also has Wi-Fi connectivity so you can pair it with the Olympus app on your phone or tablet, which you can use for sharing the images or managing your camera remotely.
Video can be shot in 1080p and there’s a neat feature that allows you to turn your still images into a 4K time-lapse movie as well.
The hardware itself is a sophisticatedly retro-looking machine. It resembles classic film cameras, while maintaining a premium feel with its stainless finish to the front and satisfying manual dials on the rear.
The camera (body only) goes on sale in March for $1,200 and Olympus says it will be offering equally retro-looking leather accessories, including a strap, bag, jacket and grip.
