The BBC launches CBeebies Playtime mobile app, letting kids play along with their favourite characters

The BBC has launched its latest native mobile app for the UK, this time aimed squarely at kids.

CBeebies Playtime is available for Android, iOS and Kindle Fire (the latter of these should be going live later today), and features four games based around CBeebies shows. It encourages young children to play along with their favourite characters, including the Alphablocks, Octonauts, Tree Fu Tom and Something Special’s Mr Tumble.

Though it’s clearly aimed at children, parents can also participate in a dedicated ‘Grown-ups’ area, where they can record special messages, and read about the purported learning benefits of the games.

Moreover, there is a strong focus on families here, given that profiles can be set up for up to four children, allowing them to collect CBeebies bugs as rewards. Each profile features a hot air balloon that can be personalized, while passcodes can also be enabled to restrict where kids can navigate to.
