Temple Run, one of the most popular games for iOS, is coming to Android

Temple Run, one of the most popular games for iOS, is coming to Android

Temple Run is easily one of the most fun and addictive games you can download for your iDevice. Since launching in August of last year, it has already been downloaded over 40 million times.

When people refer to Apple products as a potential killer gaming device, Temple Run is one of the first games to get mentioned. It uses all of the features of a smartphone, like the accelerometer and swiping the screen. It’s pretty much the game version of an Indiana Jones movie, complete with different characters to play as and pretty much endless gameplay.

How popular is Temple Run? When Apple announced that 25 billion apps had been downloaded from the App Store, it named its top apps of all time and Temple Run was number 18 for free apps.

It’s even featured on Apple’s homepage right now:

As all gaming companies know, the key to having a wildly popular game is distribution. That means that the company behind Temple Run, Imangi Studios, is following in the footsteps of Angry Birds and porting its game for Android.

Here’s what Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios, had to say about the move:

We are excited to finally share the Android release date with our fans who have been so enthusiastic and supportive of Temple Run. By expanding to more mobile devices, we hope to provide the same addictive and fast-paced gameplay to an entirely new group of players.

Temple Run will be available for Android users on March 27th, and will be a free download just like its iOS counterpart.
