Stitcher Radio rolls out redesigned Android app, and adds ‘Topic Search’ to iOS

The last time we covered Stitcher Radio was way back in 2011, noting it was one of 8 great apps for listening to podcasts on the move.

In a nutshell, Stitcher lets you tap-in to your favorite radio shows on demand, encompassing more than 15,000 shows and live stations.

Earlier this week, it launched a completely redesigned Android app, with the app’s core navigation now utilizing Android’s Action Bar.

SmartStationIn addition, it also launched a new Smart Station feature, which serves up recommendations based on an individual’s listening habits, and tweaked the browsing so that users can “thumb” through a continuous list of recommendations without disrupting what’s currently playing.

Now, it has launched an interesting update to its iOS app too, rolling out a new ‘Topic Search’ feature, letting listeners discover trending topics across its featured stations.

So, in the standard search bar you can now enter any topic and see their mentions within episodes, while using one-click audio links to skip to specific segments of the clip.

“Listeners will now be able to easily discover topic-based audio at their fingertips, across a vast range of sources and episodes,” explains Noah Shanok, CEO of Stitcher. “We see this as part of our mission to further the evolution of radio by making it more relevant and accessible than ever.”

Stitcher Radio v5.2.0 also features a handful of other updates, including better handling of live radio-streaming during patchy network reception, a heard/unheard indicator in episode lists, and better visuals with full album art for BMW and MINI connected-drivers.

Both updated apps are available to download for free now.
