With World Polio Day coming up on October 24th, the company Stik is willing to donate money to the END POLIO NOW fund for each recommendation created by Rotary members on its professional reputation and recommendation platform.
If you’re a member of the Rotary or know someone who is, be sure to pass this along.
For reference, here is an excerpt from Wikipedia about the Polio disease:
Although approximately 90% of polio infections cause no symptoms at all, affected individuals can exhibit a range of symptoms if the virus enters the blood stream. In about 1% of cases the virus enters the central nervous system, preferentially infecting and destroying motor neurons, leading to muscle weakness and acute flaccid paralysis. Different types of paralysis may occur, depending on the nerves involved. Spinal polio is the most common form, characterized by asymmetric paralysis that most often involves the legs.
About its “Pennies for Polio” campaign, Stik had this to say:
Pennies for Polio is a campaign designed to raise money and awareness for one of Rotary’s most precious causes. Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating this tenacious disease, but a strong push is needed now. For this effort, Stik.com, a service that helps professionals build their reputation and referral networks online. Stik.com has pledged to donate up to $1MM to END POLIO NOW for each recommendation and review collected by Rotarians on Stik.com through December 31, 2011.
How it works
Rotarians need only sign-up for Stik.com and start collecting professional recommendations and reviews. To get started:
- Sign-Up: Build your Stik.com professional profile in less than 3 minutes.
- Request Recommendations: Request recommendations from your friends, family, past clients and fellow rotarians (You can also do this in the sign-up process). The more recommendations you receive, the more money Stik.com donates to END POLIO NOW.
- Spread the Word: Share this effort with your network. The more Rotarians involved with the cause, the bigger impact we can make to eradicate this terrible disease.
It’s amazing when a company can do some real Social Good using its service. Like we’ve mentioned, some companies may only have the intention of getting some attention and more users, but when it is very focused to its product and a usage of its product, it makes complete sense.
