Stephen Colbert wins Twitter’s first-ever Golden Tweet Award

Twitter has published its latest instalment of its #Hindsight2010 series, this time awarding US TV personality Stephen Colbert it’s first-ever “Golden Tweet Award” for the Most Retweeted Tweet of 2010.

Colbert’s tweet: “In honor of oil-soaked birds, ‘tweets’ are now ‘gurgles.’ http://bit.ly/cIhZNf“, tops Twitter’s top ten list with over 44,000 retweets – Twitter co-founder Biz Stone actualling presenting Colbert with the award on tonight’s The Colbert Report.

This Most Retweeted Tweets follows Twitter’s Top Trends and the Most Powerful Tweets of 2010.

Musicians (if you can call them that), made up nearly every other position in 2010’s Most Retweeted Tweets List with Drizzy Drake (@drakkardnoir) taking second #2 spot, with Lil Wayne (@liltunechi) collecting the bronze at #3.

Justin Bieber (@justinbieber), never too far away from top spot on any social networking list came in fourth with both Joe Jonas (#7) and Rihanna (#9) managing to rank in the top ten just for tweeting something vaguely related to the young singer.

Spoof account @alqaeda managed a very respectable fifth place and everyone’s favourite @shitmydadsays with his words of wisdom placed tenth. Long Cat (@longcat111@longcat222 and @longcat333) got an extra mention too, hilarious.
