Spotify’s deep integration with Facebook last month may have made music more social, but after it transpired that it would be made mandatory for new users to the music-streaming service to also have a Facebook account, a minor backlash ensued.
Fast-forward a month, and Spotify has just announced the release of a new preview version of its Android app which will give users a sign of things to come on mobile. The update will throw Facebook sign-in into the mix, whilst also adding Facebook sharing functionality. You’ll be pleased to know that it’s added a private listening mode too if you don’t want your Facebook buddies to know what you’re listening to, this can be activated from within Spotify’s settings.
Whilst still in its early testing mode, Spotify is inviting users to try it out and give their feedback on its community forum. So how can you test it out just now? Firstly, you must enable your Android handset to allow installation from “Unknown Sources” by going to the Settings >Applications >Unknown sources menu. Then, you simply download the file to your handset.
As with the desktop version, it seems that the sign-in feature on the preview version of the Android app will be reserved for new Spotify users only, as Candice Katz says on the Spotify blog post from earlier:
“If you’re new to Spotify, first-time users will now be able to log in and create an account with Facebook credentials.”
