Sony’s Xperia Z preorders begin on Three and O2, ahead of February 28 UK release

Sony’s Xperia Z preorders begin on Three and O2, ahead of February 28 UK release

Sony’s new Android flagship — the Xperia Z — finally has at least one UK release date, following an announcement by Three and that the smartphone will go on general sale from February 28, with preorders for the 5-inch device beginning today.

Vodafone has also committed to launching the device on the same day, while O2 has followed Three by opening preorders.

Announcing the Xperia Z at CES earlier this month, Sony committed to releasing its new smartphone in the first quarter, later confirming the device would go on sale in Japan from February 9.

Launching before the end of the month in the UK, Sony will hope that it can steal a march on its Android device-making rivals, including HTC and Samsung, which are scheduled to announce their new flagship devices in the coming weeks.

The Xperia Z is powered by Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 1.5 GHz S4 Pro processor and features 2GB of RAM and 4G LTE connectivity. It also includes a new Battery STAMINA mode, which is said to increase quadruple standby times, and can be fully submerged in water.

Three has priced the Xperia Z at £449.99 on Pay As You Go, but will offer the device from £34 a month with a one off payment of £69.
