So much for launch dates: Google’s new Nexus 7 tablet has landed in the Google Play store

So much for launch dates: Google’s new Nexus 7 tablet has landed in the Google Play store

Google’s newest tablet device, the Nexus 7, is now on sale on its Google Play store. As reported by several technology publications and confirmed by Google, you can place your order for the 16GB and/or 32GB version starting today. The move follows Best Buy, which began accepting pre-orders for the devices the night before Google even announced it was being released.

What makes this story so entertaining is the fact that the devices weren’t supposed to be on sale until July 30. Best Buy, Amazon, Gamestop, and Walmart, have all gone ahead and started selling their Nexus 7 stock four days ahead of schedule. All the rest have been good vendors…so far.

Monkey see, monkey do, we suppose.

The new Nexus 7 device is a thinner, lighter version of the one already out in stores, and it comes complete with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean installed. Those interested can pick one up at a starting price of $229.00. Right now, the devices are set to ship by July 30 so best to place your order before it sells out. As an added bonus, for those that order directly from the Google Play store, the company is offering free ground shipping (but only for a limited time).

The device is billed as offering 9 hours of HD video playback and 10 hours of web browsing or reading. Google also touts its sharp display, giving users a 1920×1200 HD display with over 2.3 million pixels and 323 ppi. Each device comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM.

While the Nexus 7 will support 4G LTE data plans from AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile, only WiFi versions are available today.
