Google adds three features to its AI plans, and keeps a fourth for Americans

Google’s autumn roundup of its AI subscriptions leads on Gemini Spark handling web errands through Chrome for US subscribers, alongside voice tools, an image editor and a spreadsheet app builder that do reach Europe. Spark itself is unavailable across the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK, and Google has given no reason.

Google has published an autumn roundup of its AI subscriptions on its own blog, adding voice features in Gmail, Docs and Keep, an image tool called Google Pics and a mini-app builder for Sheets. It leads on Gemini Spark, which will now handle web errands, edit photos and curate albums for Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States.

Spark is not sold in Europe at all.

When Google expanded it to more than 160 countries in July, four markets were left out, PPC Land reported: the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Nigeria.

Google gave no reason.

Spark is the agentic part of the product. With permission it uses Chrome, saved passwords and logged-in accounts to schedule viewings or begin a flight booking, with human sign-off required for payments.

The rest of the plan does reach Europe. Voice works with AI Plus, Pro and Ultra in Gmail and Keep, and with Pro and Ultra in Docs, while Pics and the Sheets canvas need Pro or Ultra.

TNW noted two weeks ago that Google’s Gemini Live announcement named no European carve-out. This is the carve-out.

So European subscribers buy the same tiers, at the same prices, and do not get the feature the tiers are being sold on. Google AI Pro is $19.99 a month and Plus is $4.99.

Apple has been here. Its rebuilt Siri will not launch in the EU with iOS 27, after the Commission rejected every proposal it made, including an intermediary layer and an 18-month rollout.

Apple at least said why, blaming demands that rival assistants receive the same system access as its own. Google has said nothing.

The silence is awkward given what Google has already agreed to.

Under its settlement with the Commission it must let rival assistants on Android reach comparable functionality by July 2027.

Comparable to what is the question. An agent Google does not sell in Europe is one its rivals here cannot be measured against, and the remedy that came out of the Digital Markets Act proceedings was built to open exactly that comparison.
