Technode reports that Weibo, the Twitter-like microblogging service of Sina, has been working on an official PC client.
A screenshot of Sina’s official desktop client of Weibo was posted by Weibo user @quzheng. Based on the picture, it has user-friendly interface that gives users quick access to their contacts, as well as all of the other functions that are available for the web client.
Launched in August 2009, the microblog site has more than 80 million users posting millions of “tweets” per day, and is adding 10 million new users per month. Sina Weibo opened its platform for apps last July and now has over 800 applications but this is the first time the company is launching its own.
Riding on the momentum of its success, Weibo will definitely attract more users to the service with the introduction of its official client. Numbers skyrocketed for Twitter with the launch of the official Twitter client so it’s not surprising the same happens to Weibo.
Unfortunately for us, it will only be available in Simplified and Traditional Chinese. No release date has been announced.
