Seesmic acquires Ping.fm

Seesmic acquires Ping.fm

Picture 68Last month we brought you news of rumors that Ping.fm were to be acquired by Seesmic. Loic Le Meur, Seesmic’s founder entirely denied the story but today, it has been confirmed as true.

Aiming to be your one stop shop for all your social networking needs, Ping.fm fits in neatly with Seesmic’s ambitions.

“Your friends are not all in one social network, but we want to help you stay in touch with them anytime and from any device. That is Seesmic’s vision and to deliver this faster, we have acquired Ping.fm. ” says Le Meur.

With the acquisition, you will soon be able to update 50 social networks using Seesmic+Ping.fm from email, chat, sms, Blackberry, Android, web, Windows, OSX and more.

Picture 69Ping.fm posts 200,000 updates a day and has 500,000 registered users and is reportedly continuing to grow. Seesmic hopes the acquisition will ensure it reaches its target of one million updates a day in 2010.

Ping.fm co-founders, Adam Duffy and Sean McCullough, are joining the Seesmic team full time and will keep improving Ping.fm as well as integrating it with Seesmic’s applications.

This shouldn’t come as too big a surprise to those of you who follow Loic on Twitter, he’s been using Ping.fm all the more recently, a good indication that something was brewing.

Details of the acquisition have not been made available.

Congratulations to Loic (seen right), team Seesmic and the Ping.fm co-founders.
