Samsung has revealed the US release date for its recently announced trio of Galaxy Tab 3 tablets as July 7.
The South Korean electronics maker has been on somewhat of a hot streak this year, already having announced enough phones and handsets to put it well into the double digits, and next up on the US release schedule is its reworked range of Android Jelly Bean-based Galaxy Tab 3 devices.
The 7-inch, 8-inch and 10.1-inch devices will all go on sale from July 7, although if you’re keen to make sure you have one in your hands on launch day, you’ll be able to start pre-ordering them from tomorrow, Samsung said.
The smallest of the tablets, the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3, will also be the cheapest and will arrive with a price tag of just $199. Clearly aimed at the lower-end of the market, the 7-inch Tab 3 will go up against other similarly sized rivals like the Nexus 7, which also runs Android and costs around the same money.
The slightly larger 8-inch device, which Samsung designated “the perfect e-Reader size”, will cost $299 and also includes support for Samsung’s multi-window system. It’s worth noting that this shouldn’t be confused with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet, which also runs Android and has the same size display.
The largest of the trio is the Tab 3 10.1-inch, which will cost $399 and includes a screen upgrade over its siblings to offer a 1280×800 pixel display.
Most of the internal specs remain the same regardless of display size, although the 8-inch device offers up a 5-megapixel snapper on the rear, whereas its larger sibling only has a 3-megapixel affair. Nonetheless, most other key specs, such as 1.5GHz dual-core processors and microSD support up to 64GB remain the same.
Samsung is also sweetening the deal for anyone willing to make the jump to a Tab 3 by offering “hundreds of dollars’ worth of content” (including a $10 app for Google Play apps, books, movies or music), one year free Boingo hotspot service, three months free Hulu Plus service and 2 years free storage (50GB) on DropBox.
How well Samsung’s newest entrants to the tablet market will perform in an increasingly popular market place remains to be seen. While its Galaxy S series of devices have done well in the smartphone sector, strong performance from the likes of the Nexus 7 and iPad Mini in similar size categories could well stymie its progress.
