Samsung has announced it has cancelled its Samsung Unpacked 2011 showcase on 11 October in San Diego, where it was expected to debut a new flagship Android smartphone in partnership with Google, stating that “it is just not the right time to announce a new product”.
The event dubbed, Samsung Unpacked: Google Edition, was also touted to be the date of Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich launch, ushering in a new smartphone software that would go toe-to-toe with Apple’s iOS 5 firmware.
Pocketlint reports that Samsung and Google issued a joint statement, detailing the reasons behind the cancellation:
“Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.”
With specifications, photos, video and Google-offered release dates of the Galaxy Nexus already hitting the Internet, it is not known why the Korean manufacturer has decided to delay the launch of its most powerful smartphone to date. One reason could be the recent passing of Apple’s Steve Jobs, although this could not be confirmed.
