Wired first launched its print-based edition in the US way back in 1993, which makes this year its 20th anniversary.

When the magazine first launched, it proclaimed it would become the ‘Rolling Stone’ of technology magazines, and went on to launch local editions around the world.

This year sees the third annual Wired conference hit UK shores, serving up a 2-day event comprising of renowned speakers from around the world.

Wired 2013 takes place from October 17-18 at Tobacco Dock, a funky warehouse-style venue in East London. And as with the previous years’ events, it promises to bring the values of Wired magazine to life over the two days, stimulating debate, spreading ideas and showcasing ‘the future’, covering topics such as ‘Media Futures’, ‘Hack Your Senses’, Singularity University’, ‘The Brain Decoded’, Bringing the Next Billion Online’, ‘The Power of the Unseen’, among many others.

Speakers

There’s a stellar cast of speakers lined up for Wired 2013, including Björk, who has previously turned an album into an interactive music app; technology pioneer and creator of a popular fake online persona Kevin Ashton, who also invented the term ‘The Internet of Things’; and novelist and playwright Professor Carl Djerassi who is best known for his contribution to the development of oral contraceptive pills.

Also on board is former hacker Jake Davis (aka Topiary) who was a member of Lulzsec and other hacktivist groups; Yancey Strickler, cofounder of crowdfunding platform Kickstarter; Chinese concert pianist Lang Lang who partnered with Google and YouTube to assemble the first-ever online collaborative orchestra, the YouTube Symphony Orchestra; Eben Upton, inventor of the Raspberry Pi computer; entrepreneur, computer programmer and designer Nick D’Aloisio who, aged 15, founded Summly, which was later acquired by Yahoo; Chief Media Scientist of Twitter and professor at MIT, Deb Roy, an expert in exploring people’s behaviour and preferences in real time from Twitter data; and Jonah Peretti, co-founder of The Huffington Post and founder and CEO of BuzzFeed.
