Posterous adds autoposting to Picasa, Vimeo, Delicious, Friendfeed, YouTube and more.

20090625-mhc1fxqfqifxwrxrh6b5jy5pwbIt’s not often we write about a company twice in two days (unless you’re Twitter of course… :O) but we felt this news warranted it.

One of the most interesting features of Posterous is its ability to autopost to various sites. Post an image to your blog, and it’ll get sent through to Flickr. A blog post can get sent through to your wordpress blog. A status update can get posted through to Twitter and Facebook – you get the idea.

Well today Posterous quietly pushed an update letting users post to many more of your favorite web apps, specifically:

  • Friendfeed
  • Picasa
  • YouTube
  • Vimeo
  • Delicious
  • Plurk
  • Jaiku
  • Identica

So how does it all work?

In simple terms, (generally) any service that accepts a certain type of media, Posterous will get it there. If not, it will post a link back to your Posterous blog.

More specifically, basic text can be sent to virtually every service that accepts text and can be made a status update (Plurk, Identica, Facebook). Photos you send through to Posterous, can be autoposted to Picasa and Friendfeed, all text focused services will receive a link back to your Posterous blog. Videos will automatically be converted to flash on Posterous.com, but then also uploaded to YouTube and Vimeo – yep, its that simple.  Bookmarks – now this doesn’t work quite as I’d like am afraid. Whatever you decide to put into the subject of your email to Posterous will end up as the title of your bookmark on delicious – but the links will always go back to your Posterous blog. I would much rather have seen any URL’s entered into the subject field of emails to Posterous become the actual bookmarked URL on delicious, but there we go – a minor gripe.
