Popcornflix takes its ad-supported movie-streaming service to Sony Bravia TVs and Blu-ray players

Popcornflix has announced that its free, ad-supported online movie streaming service will be launching for Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) customers on a selection of Internet-enabled Sony devices, including Bravia TVs, Blu-ray Disc players, and Blu-ray Home Theater devices.

SEN is Sony’s digital media delivery service, serving up access to PlayStation Network for games, Video Unlimited for film and TV, Music Unlimited for music, and PlayMemories for sharing videos. With Popcornflix on board for its Web-enabled TVs and Blu-ray players, customers will be able to tap more than 650 movies for free, including indie classics such as 9 1/2 Ninjas, 18 Fingers of Death, and The Myth of the Male Orgasm.

“We’re thrilled to offer our free digital movie platform to Sony customers,” says Gary Delfiner, President of Screen Media Digital, a division of Screen Media Ventures, the parent company of Popcornflix. “Now movie lovers can access hundreds of great feature length films free using web-enabled Sony products.”

Popcornflix.com is a service of Screen Media Ventures, an independent movie distribution company with a network that includes US and international theatrical, home video, TV, cable and new media distribution. Screen Media was founded in 1999, though Popcornflix wasn’t formed until 2010.

Through Popcornflix, movie fans can search by genre, actor or director, select from the latest in new arrivals, or choose from the site’s most popular films. Up to forty feature length films are added to the channel each month.

Headquartered in New York, Popcornflix was developed by GigEcast and Screen Media Ventures.
