NY Tech Meetup, a monthly tech startup event with over 20,000 members, and NASDAQ OMX, the world’s largest exchange company, have officially announced a partnership today in support of New York’s growing tech community.
The partnership doesn’t come to much surprise, as NASDAQ has already been getting quite involved in the startup crowd, sponsoring events like Photo Hack Day, which we covered back in August. By working with NYTM, however, NASDAQ has managed to get closer than ever before to young entrepreneurs, many of whom are hoping to build the next big thing.
Here’s what’s planned so far with the announcement:
- A collaborative production of a series of videos featuring New York-based tech companies and their founders
- An event series focused on women in technology, held at the NASDAQ MarketSite in Times Square
- A public service announcement highlighting New York as the ideal place to build and nurture a technology company
From Jessica Lawrence, the Managing Director of NY Tech Meetup:
NY Tech Meetup is looking forward to collaborating with NASDAQ OMX to showcase New York’s thriving technology community. Our partnership will provide a unique opportunity to highlight the city as the ideal place to build a technology startup, and will strengthen the tech ecosystem even further through educational, connection-building opportunities.
The partnership is a win-win at the moment, as NASDAQ’s heft should help propel NY Tech Meetup as it expands into areas beyond monthly meetups. Here’s the reality: If NY’s tech scene continues to grow, NASDAQ continues to grow. In other words, it is in both parties’ interest to collaborate a bit to make sure that happens, and well be sure to keep close tabs on the results.
