Mobile giant Nokia has today officially released details of its new Symbian^3 powered smartphone, the Nokia N8.
There had been a considerable amount of buzz around the Nokia N8, many touting the device as the first Nokia smartphone that would be able to rival Apple and Android handsets, coupling high-specification hardware with open-sourced operating system; Symbian^3.
Eldar Murtazin over at Mobile-Review managed to get his hands on a device before Nokia’s official announcement and revealed in roughly translated review that the device was “brushed, washed but not polished”.
Whether the Nokia N8 is a big disappointment remains to be seen, however the handset is equipped with an impressive 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon Flash, featuring a larger sensor to capture clearer and more detailed photos.
The N8 has a 3.5 inch HD touchscreen and will allow handset owners to record HD videos and edit them using an inbuilt editing suite on the device. With Dolby Digital Plus surround sound HD content can be consumed on the device or boradcast on a HDTV by way of a HDMI Out connector.
The N8 has 16GB onboard storage with the ability to expand up to 48GB with a micro SD card so users will be able to carry their videos and photos with them wherever they go.
Most new Nokia smartphones come with Ovi Maps and the Nokia N8 is no exception. The handset also features free turn-by-turn navigation which is currently supported in 70 countries worldwide.
Carved from a single piece of aluminium, the N8 comes in five different colours and will initially cost €370. It will ship in the third quarter of 2010.
