Two months after Nintendo CEO, Satoru Iwata, tragically passed away at 55, the company has announced his successor: Tatsumi Kimishima.
Kimishima previously worked at The Pokémon Company, before heading up Nintendo’s America business from 2002 to 2006 and later becoming Managing Director of Nintendo itself in April 2013.
Iwata was a much-loved figure at Nintendo who deeply cared about the company and the products it built — he even got his hands dirty on multiple occasions and coded some games himself.
Forbes reports that Kimishima, who comes from a business background, will become CEO and Shigeru Miyamoto, who was widely expected to replace Iwata, has been given the title of ‘Creative Fellow.’
Nintendo is at a turning point, with many of its own products being undermined by mobile games and poor sales of the Wii U. It plans to release its first smartphone-based game service this year.
