Nike+ Running iPhone app gets new challenge feature to let you race friends for medals

Nike has added a new Nike+ Challenges feature to its iPhone app, allowing users to compete against their friends for medals.

Users create their own challenges, set a distance goal, and then invite friends. The app includes messaging capabilities so you can trash talk and/or encourage your fellow runners, and the winning runner will receive a medal.

Previously, the app had limited competition features in the form of leaderboards for most runs and farthest distance, but Challenges adds a deeper social element to it. Nike clearly realizes that half the fun in running is being able to gloat to your friends about it.
