Two Israeli entrepreneurs with a track record in starting and selling enterprise software companies have put their weight behind a new startup called Newvem.
The company’s SaaS solution – dubbed KnowYourCloud Analytics – enables Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers to analyze and optimize their cloud usage.
Today, Newvem is announcing the completion of a $4 million Series A financing round led by Greylock Partners with participation from Index Ventures and Eric Schmidt’s Innovation Endeavors, and private investors such as Greylock partner David Strohm, Silver Lake Partners’ George Kadifa and Western Technology Investment’s Maurice Werdegar.
As part of the round, Erez Ofer from Greylock Partners is joining the Newvem board. Before joining Greylock in 2005, Ofer was a senior executive at EMC.
Here’s the official company pitch, from the Newvem website:
Newvem continuously and automatically gathers numerous streams of cloud operational data, analyzes them and, by learning usage patterns, automatically detects potential problems, pinpoints anomalies, and identifies divergent trends in cloud deployment.
Based on this analysis it highlights the areas in your cloud infrastructure that need attention and recommends solutions that match your unique footprint.
Newvem’s KnowYourCloud Analytics, a free SaaS solution for Amazon AWS customers, collects and analyzes AWS usage to lay bare issues and anomalies in their cloud operations, at the same time recommending actionable insights that help solve those problems.
The fresh funding will serve to enhance Newvem’s KnowYourCloud Analytics soltuion – currently in beta – with other public clouds.
Newvem was started by Zev Laderman (CEO), who previously sold Aduva to Sun Microsystems and Tradeum to VerticalNet, and Ilan Naslavsky (CTO), who previously served as Lead Engineer and Chief Architect at Sun (acquired by Oracle) and Chief Architect and Director of R&D at Aduva (acquired by Sun).
