Netflix is considering launching N-Plus, a behind-the-scenes content hub

Netflix is apparently considering launching a new platform called ‘N-Plus.’ The company began sending out a survey to customers, including TNW’s Abhimanyu Ghoshal, asking them if they’d use the service, which would include a variety of services that allow you to go more in-depth with the streaming service’s content.

According to the survey, N-Plus would include “text, image, and video feeds you can sign up for news, interviews, analysis, deep dives, games, how-tos, audience conversations, music, podcasts and more.”

The survey also notes that N-Plus results might show up on Google searches and that the Netflix app may send you notifications about new behind-the-scenes content.

It doesn’t seem everything on N-Plus will be behind a paywall. Netflix also says “parts of it could be viewed by anyone with a web browser,” so it seems the platform is considering expanding to more editorial written content, instead of just videos.

A report by Protocol also suggests N-Plus might include things like custom playlists that are shareable with people who aren’t signed up for the service yet, adding a social element to the streaming platform. It’s possible N-Plus could even be used to influence future productions by taking into account feedback ‘before filming has finished.’

The ‘Plus’ bit makes it seem like Netflix might plan to charge customers more for exclusive content, but the survey doesn’t suggest that will be the case. Still, with Netflix hiking up prices every few years, I wouldn’t be surprised if this ended up being the case.

Of course, a survey is no guarantee that N-Plus will become a reality. But the company has clearly been thinking about it for a while, and it would be a neat way to differentiate itself from the ever-growing list of streaming services out there.
