Recent press around Nest has mostly revolved around its corporate changes, from former CEO Tony Fadell stepping down to shutting down Revolv, a smart home network it acquired. Finally, we have some news regarding product.

Nest has announced a new outdoor version of its security camera that’s weatherproof and offers HD video streaming. The camera comes with a new software called Person Alerts that recognizes humans from animals, and lets you speak through the app and out from the camera (to shoo away an intruder, or ask the mailman to leave the package by the door instead of a pick-up slip, for example).

Like the indoor version of the Nest Cam, it will come with a 130-degree angle camera and stream 1080p HD video. A 25-foot-long power cable lets you extend it to the nearest outlet to keep the camera on at all times. In an interview with Quartz, Nest says there’s even a twist-locking mechanism to prevent burglars from disabling the camera. Lastly, there’s a magnetic base for you to install it at a good corner of the house, or on a metal rain duct.

So now, if your Nest app lets you know some kids keep roaming outside your house, you can creepily tell them there’s no Pikachus in the backyard and get that all in recording. Nest Cam Outdoor is expected to launch in US and Canada in the fall for $199, and is available for pre-order now. Nest Aware subscriptions start at $10 a month.
