Modebo Wins Startup World: Mexico City

Seven finalists pitched on stage at the EGADE Business School, Mexico City, at the Startup World pitch competition, Thursday. The winning startup with the highest score, as picked by the judges, was Modebo.

Modebo designs wireless M2M devices communicated with advanced algorithms to predict energy consumption and temperature behavior. Passive architecture is used to have energy efficient buildings.

Founders José Rodríguez, Marisol Contreras, and Antonio Bojorges screamed with joy when it was announced they beat off stiff competition and named Mexico City’s 2012 Winner. They will now be invited to Silicon Valley to pitch in the Startup World grand final in 2013. Contreras said ‘Its was due to the shared love and passion for their technology that kept the co-founders working together to make their startup a success.’

Over 250 startups applied for South America and only seven were chosen as regional finalists to pitch at the event in Mexico City, these included  NuFlickCreativo LatinoCaras Politicas – , Bandtastic,  Torneo de IdeasModeboSchool Control,  and Noknoker who was unable to compete due to their car breaking down.

Mexico City had an impressive lineup of judges including Sergio Romo, Cofounder of Investomex, Santiago Zavala, General Partner at Mexican.VC (the accelerator who recently partnered with Silicon Valley’s 500 Startups) Marcus Dantus, Director at Wayra Mexico, Rosalía Madrigal, Directora en la Incubadora y Aceleradora de Empresas del ITESM CEM and José Espinosa Girón, Administrador de Operaciones del Capital Emprendedor de NAFIN.
