Mobile payments processor iZettle has launched a software development kit (SDK) aimed at developers that want to integrate mobile payments into their own apps and services.

The free SDK is available to download from developer.izettle.com for devs in any of the nine countries where iZettle operates, namely: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Mexico and Brazil.

Unlike other mobile payment services, this one is still designed to be used in conjunction with the iZettle card reader – the company envisages it as “a totally new take on point-of-sale systems for cafés” or it being used to make a “Craigslist-like app matching buyers and sellers in the physical world”. Once the service has been integrated, the business can connect the app to the iZettle card reader for taking payments in just one click.

After taking payment, it’ll then return all of the relevant information to the app for generating receipts, as well as any other associated systems like inventory control, accounting, or customer relationship management (CRM) systems in place.

While iZettle’s app is available on iOS and Android, the SDK is currently only available for Apple’s platform. However, an Android version will be on the way “later this year”, the company said.

Naturally, transactions carried out will be subject to iZettle’s usual fee, which ranges between 2.75% and 1.5% of the total bill.
