Microsoft invites press to a Windows 8 coming out party in NYC on October 25h

Fresh in our inbox this morning is a lovely note from Microsoft, inviting TNW to a Windows 8 event in New York City this October 25th. Windows 8 will become generally available on the following day, October 26th.

The invite simply says, ‘Save the Date.” TNW suspects that the event will be in the evening, culminating in a midnight release of the software.

Earlier in the weekend, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer spoke strongly about Windows 8, saying that in his view, he was all but sure that it was going to succeed. He reiterated the 400 million-device figure, the number of units that he expects Windows 8 to ship on in its first year.
