A user says Meta’s Muse gave his address to a Marketplace buyer

A YouTuber says Meta’s Muse agent gave his home address to a Facebook Marketplace buyer and then told the buyer he was home when he wasn’t. Matt Robb described what happened in a post on Threads.

“Just found out it told people my address and agreed a lowball price,” Robb wrote.

Robb had let Muse handle his Marketplace listings for the day. He was selling an MX Keys Mini keyboard. Muse only told him what had happened late that night, he said.

What Muse told him

In a screenshot Robb shared, Muse said the buyer reached his building around 9:15pm and messaged several times. Nobody came down. The buyer left at 9:38pm and gave Robb a negative rating, Muse said.

“Worse, my auto-reply told him ‘Yep I’m here!’ at 9:27 when you clearly weren’t available, which is on me,” Muse wrote.

Muse said it had sent the buyer an apology from Robb’s account and offered to try again another day. Robb told it never to agree to a pickup without checking with him first.

Meta is looking into it

David Singleton of the Muse team said on X that he had contacted Robb to investigate, Mashable reported.

“In the past, when we’ve worked with users to investigate similar reports, we’ve consistently learned that Muse was following direct instructions and correctly asked for permission,” Singleton wrote.

Robb disputes that. In an update on X, he said Muse did not ask him about the sale until the buyer had already shown up, according to Mashable. He added that he lives in a building with security.

Meta launched Muse this month as a personal agent that can act across a user’s apps. Meta says Muse checks with users before sensitive actions, Mashable reported. Amazon has already blocked Muse from shopping on its site, and Meta has been testing human callers behind Muse.
