Meerkat for iOS gets address book integration, Facebook stream promotion and ‘Mobbing’

Meerkat for iOS gets address book integration, Facebook stream promotion and ‘Mobbing’

Former flavor of the week, live-streaming app Meerkat, continues to push for growth with some new iOS features that have just gone live.

The most interesting new addition is ‘mobbing,’ which sees users with a popular live stream automatically pushed onto the app’s main activity feed. Users will apparently be notified that their feed has been ‘mobbed’ by a meerkat flying around their screen in a rocket ship. Cute.

Meanwhile, you can now find users to connect with from your phone’s address book. This is the latest in a series of moves to improve user discovery, that was introduced when Twitter cut back Meerkat’s access to its social graph.

Finally, you can now promote live and upcoming streams to Facebook, although given how the News Feed ranks content, your friends may not actually see the notification until the stream has long ago finished.
