Media reports and pulled app changelog all but confirm imminent Android TV launch at Google I/O

Media reports and pulled app changelog all but confirm imminent Android TV launch at Google I/O

It’s the night before Google I/O, and the Wall Street Journal has added on to the piling rumors that the company will launch an Android TV at its developer conference.

Several media outlets have already reported on the Android TV’s release date. Gigaom reported in late May that the product will be seen at Google I/O, which followed a glimpse of the Android TV platform back in April that The Verge showed off.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Google’s Android TV will carry another company’s brand but will run on Google’s software designed to play movies, games and other content on TVs — an approach that sounds similar to how Google conducts its Android business on smartphones, by opening up its software to third-party hardware manufacturers. In particular, one key feature that Android TV will have is said to be games that move seamlessly across mobile devices and TVs.

The Android TV’s imminent launch appears to be corroborated by the developer of Android game Riptide GP2, which accidentally posted a changelog ahead of time that reveals support for Android TV, Android Police reports. The log has since been pulled, but an Android fan Aaron Burrell managed to capture a screenshot, which is on his Google+ account.
