We already caught a glimpse of Google’s rumored Android TV platform back in April, but a new report from Gigaom claims that the company will launch the product at its Google I/O developer conference in June.
As you’d expect, Android TV is believed to have a focus on streaming online media like Netflix and Hulu and gaming, similar to Amazon’s FireTV set-top box. The major innovation for the new platform is said to be a card-based interface, code-named Pano, that can drop users straight into playing content without having to navigate through an app.
It’s not clear how Chromecast will fit into the Android TV ecosystem, which should include the usual hardware partners. For now, it sounds like Chromecast will serve as the entry-level counterpart to Android TV’s full-featured media center aspirations.
