Two years after Timista launched for the Web, the intelligent ‘things to do in London’ service now has a dedicated iPhone app too.
As with the original site, which responds to a user’s ‘wish list’ by helping them decide what to do based on three key metrics – location, time and availability – the iOS incarnation serves as your own digital concierge, morphing activities, bespoke plans and availability to tell you exactly what you should be doing, and when, in the UK capital.
The good news is that Timista works straight out of the box. No signing up, no accounts, just simple questions to establish the basic parameters around which you’d like to find something to do. And the design is beautiful too, as you drag-and-drop events and places (movies, plays, pubs, cafes and more) into your timeline.
Timista then draws up a plan of action, including maps and directions, all of which can be rearranged by the user too.
The basic underlying principle reminds me a little bit of Tripomatic, the way it automates much of the planning process. But Timista leans less towards automation in terms of how your activities are chosen, and it’s delivered in a sleek, slimline app that should find itself a fair few fans in the Big Smoke.
London calling
Timista is the handiwork of former Apple product manager PJ Camillieri and colleague Julien Bieren, who had become sick of spending their free time sifting through event listings to find things to do. So they built a product that looks at locations, durations, reviews, and prices to help amuse Londoners for days-on-end.
As for where things can go from here, the focus shall remain in London until they “do justice to all the events on offer in the capital first”, but there is scope for rolling it out further afield in the future. And as for other platforms, well, we’re told that they’re “working on mastering iOS first” before they start looking to Android.
Timista for iPhone is available to download for free now, replete with more then 10,000 events across the city. And if you fancy traversing the capital by bus, you might want to check out the recently-launched Jump too.
