LivingSocial’s charitable program launches today to donate over $100K in 12 days

LivingSocial has been killing it this year, pulling in an average of $1 million in revenue, daily. Not only did they make our list of the 10 D.C. Lists You Need To Know About, but they’ve also garnered speculation of an Amazon buy-out. And according to comScore, online sales this holiday season are expected to exceed $32 billion– the highest ever on record.

So the company has decided to give back by launching “12 Days of Giving,” a program which will feature a new gift-worthy curated Deal each day like travel adventures, tanning packages, relaxing spa treatments and cooking classe. – at deep discounts from 50% to 70% starting today through December 24.

Following a similar program they ran last year which took place in just 5 cities, LivingSocial has expanded its “12 Days of Giving” to more than 131 markets, reaching 10 million shoppers. When a U.S.-based user buys a LivingSocial Deal, 1% of their purchase price will be donated to a classroom in their area through DonorsChoose.org. 1% may not seem like a lot, but remember LivingSocial is pulling in $1million a day, so that’s $10,000 a day, totaling $120,000 in likely donations. For  shoppers in Canada, UK and Australia, LivingSocial is working with GlobalGiving, an organization that connects people with local causes and projects. With GlobalGiving, shoppers can specifically design what their donation will fund like $15 towards a clown doctor’s visit to two children in the UK or $25 towards feeding two rehabilitating koalas in Australia. This program is representative of a growing trend of social activism and philanthropic efforts in social media.
