MacHider is an innovative Mac OS X app that helps users to put sensitive and confidential files out of sight of prying eyes.
The data could be anything – financial information, private photos and videos – MacHider can hide all type of files. The app is well designed with cool icons, controls, effects and sounds and is fun to play with.
To hide a file, all you have to do is drag and drop it into the MacHider interface. The files are hidden from normal view, secured with a password and stored privately.
MacHider supports creating multiple folders for better organization of files. You can create different folders for the various types of files you want to hide and to distinguish them from one another, you can assign a custom icon for each one too.
Even though the files are hidden from plain sight, the file structure is not modified. When a file is being hidden, the app prompts if you want to remove all entries from the Recently Viewed section too, a welcome addition I would say.
The app uses Leopard’s quick view technology to its advantage. Hence, you can see a quick preview of what the file is all about just like you do normally, without having to unhide it and moving it off MacHider.
Don’t have secret files to hide? MacHider will make a brilliant alternative to Finder. If you take password protection out of the equation, the app unlocks a full featured file and folder organization. Hide only the sensitive files from a folder and unhide the ones you need.
MacHider comes with a free trial period of 30 days. During the trial period, only 3 files can be hidden, which seriously limits the usage. After the expiry of the free trial, a license can be bought for $19.95 at the MacPaw website.
