Internet Week New York announces 2012 festival dates: May 14-20, 2012

Internet Week New York has just announced dates for its 5th annual festival, to take place May 14th-20th, 2012.

It’s an insane week of Internet celebration with long days of panels and long nights of parties thrown by local media stars like Thrillist and Flavorpill, so I recommend clearing your schedule for 3 weeks, taking time to both prepare, rest and recover. This year, the celebration of all things digital is expected to bring more than 30,000 people from around the world to nearly 300 events at the festival’s headquarters and at dozens of locations throughout the city.

“The success of Internet Week New York has closely paralleled the growth of New York’s constantly-evolving digital community,” said David-Michel Davies, Chairman of Internet Week New York. “We’re looking forward to presenting an even bigger and better festival in 2012 that brings people together to exchange ideas, chart the Internet’s future, and have some fun in the process.”

We covered Internet Week 2011, which included a speeches by Senator Chuck Schumer, Arianna Huffington, Buzzfeed founder Jonah Peretti, and Gothamist founder Jake Dobkin. Must-see events included Google’s Digital Archeology – a walk-thru ‘museum’ that featured long-forgotten gadgets, web pages, and Internet browsers – accompanied by a copy of that year’s most relevant WIRED magazine covers; ‘Can You Draw the Internet’ gallery; and the interactive ShareThis exhibit, which asked attendees to grab a whiteboard and share what sharing means to them.

The magnum opus of the week long event is celebrated at The 15th Annual Webby Awards, where at the 2010 Webby Awards, Foursquare founder Naveen Selvadurai actually “iced” legendary Astronaut Buzz Aldrin.
