InComm buys digital and social gift card company Giftango in undisclosed deal

InComm, which provides prepaid products, services and transaction technologies to retailers, brands and consumers, today announced its acquisition of digital, social and mobile gift card company Giftango.

Giftango has been in the digital gift card space since its inception in 2005 and delivers the goods to email inboxes, via text messages and straight into mobile wallets.

InComm, which declined to disclose the financial terms of the deal, says the acquisition of Giftango will enable it to expand its reach into e-commerce gift card sales and distribution through high-volume channels for merchants and product partners.

It also helps that Giftango, by its own account, has filed multiple patents related to security, mobile delivery and the “future of digital stored value”.

Giftango’s solutions essentially help merchants sell gift cards from their own websites. The company claims more than 150 brands deliver digital gift cards through Giftango’s network of more than 80 partners today.

In fact, Giftango says it can connect its platform to every major gift card processor in the United States and Canada.

David Nelsen, Giftango’s CEO, comments on the acquisition thusly:

“Coming together allows us to extend digital prepaid functionality that is necessary for mobile wallets, incentive and loyalty distribution, financial institutions and the new mobile payments ecosystem. It is an exciting day for Giftango, our partners and our clients.”

Giftango will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of InComm and will remain based in Portland, Oregon.

In October 2012, InComm also snapped up On-Line Strategies, a software and services company focused on processing complex, large-volume and consumer-driven transactions in mission-critical environments.
