What do you call people who are stretching the limits of their imaginations to engineer a new future? At The Next Web, we went with imagineers.

We want to offer our favourite entrepreneurs and pioneers a platform to share the visions and insights that will shape our future. This is why, each week, we’ll present you with an exclusive episode of Imagineers.

The <3 of EU tech

The latest rumblings from the EU tech scene, a story from our wise ol' founder Boris, and some questionable AI art. It's free, every week, in your inbox. Sign up now!

Produced in partnership with the City of Amsterdam, each episode captures one person’s thought-provoking talk against the backdrop of TNW’s beloved home city, where rich history and culture go hand in hand with innovation and progression – just the right place for TNW Conference to take place.

In this third episode, we hear how Takeaway.com founder and CEO Jitse Groen used €50 to start his company from scratch and grow into an international success story.

Takeaway.com, created originally under its Dutch name Thuisbezorgd.nl in 2000, is a Dutch dot-com company specialised in online food ordering and home delivery. Now available in no less than 9 countries, the company connects nearby restaurants with potential customers, and has become one of the go-to services for ordering food online.

Filmed at EYE Museum’s beautiful restaurant, overlooking Amsterdam’s breathtaking waterfront, Groen talks the future of e-commerce (yes, it’s mobile), and why China is not a suitable market for his company.
