TNW at IBC: When it comes to media recommendations, with Spideo, it’s personal

The Next Web is at IBC in Amsterdam, interviewing the companies shaping the future of TV and online video. Yesterday morning we received a tip-off that we really had to talk to French startup Spideo, a company developing technology to recommend content relevant to your tastes and based on your social connections.

Spideo wants to offer a personalized recommendation experience reminiscent of the one the staff at your favorite VHS and DVD store offered before it was driven out of business by the march of progress.

As co-founder Gabriel Mandelbaum told me in this interview, the Paris-based firm is determined to show that you can build a successful Internet startup in France, even if the country isn’t awash with the funding and networking opportunities enjoyed in Silicon Valley.

You can catch more of our IBC coverage here, and (during European daytime hours) on our livestream powered by LiveU until Tuesday 11 September.
