Hooops: A simple but sweet Dribbble client for iPhone

Hooops: A simple but sweet Dribbble client for iPhone

Dribbble has proved to be popular platform for designers for several years now, providing a community for creatives to engage in a little ‘show and tell’ around their latest work.

Users share what are called ‘shots’ – basically small screenshots of their work – for others to comment on. Now, to upload shots and make comments, an invitation from a current member is required – invited members are known as ‘players’. Without a membership, you can still sign-up to find, follow or hire designers from within the Dribbble community.

Dribbble has always been about the Web though – it hasn’t produced its own native apps for smartphones and tablets, though there are a number of third-party efforts out there such as Ballin, Dunk or Courtside. Another neat one has hit our radar though, going by the name of Hooops.

How it works

Hooops is a fairly minimalist app that lets you browse by what’s popular, debuts and everyone. Hitting the little ‘share’ icon also lets you send any item you like to the usual social channels, as well as email.

Other than that, you can read the comments around a particular design – which can be interesting in itself if you’re an aspiring designer looking to see what’s hot, what’s not and the reasons why.

It would be great if you could also make comments, but we’re guessing restrictions in the API mean that signing in with your Dribbble credentials is never going to be an option. Another more realistic request, however, would be enabling full-screen images of any artwork that’s been shared to the community.

Granted, this particular Dribbble client doesn’t bring too much more to the table in addition to what’s already out there, but it is completely free, and it has been nicely designed.
