This week Microsoft announced the coming arrival of Outlook 2013 RT, which will be released as part of the Windows 8.1 update. Windows 8.1, formerly known as Windows Blue will reach public preview on June 26th. It will be formally released by the end of the year.
As usual, Paul Thurrott has the software in hand, and has to our benefit published two screenshots of the coming Outlook build. As you’d likely expect, Outlook 2013 RT is exceptionally similar – bordering on the facsimile – of Outlook 2013 proper.
Via Thurrott’s WinSuperSite, the eye candy:
The move to bring Outlook to the Surface RT and other Windows RT-based devices is almost odd; what is the demographic that wants an RT device, with its application restrictions, but also needs Outlook? I asked that question on Twitter and was told by a number of parties that the addition would be more than welcome.
Best as I can tell, Microsoft is simply extending the capability of its lower priced tablet for free, making the addition of Outlook as part of Windows 8.1 sensical, as that is the precise task of the coming Windows update.
Don’t forget: We’ll have our hands on Windows 8.1 in just a few weeks.
