One week after the BBC announced it was rolling out iPlayer on Xbox Live, we can reveal that HBO Go, Comcast Xfinity, and Major League Baseball (MLB.TV) also arriving on the online entertainment service for Xbox 360 from today.
Launched in February 2010, HBO Go is available in the US only and is free to HBO customers who subscribe through a participating provider such as Verizon. Content includes original programming, movies, comedy specials, documentaries and sports. Whilst there are also HBO Go apps for iPad, iPhone, and Android, the arrival on Xbox will be a welcome addition for fans of HBO programming.
Users will be able to access more than 1,400 titles from the comfort of their sofa, including The Sopranos, The Wire, Sex in the City and True Blood, but users will be required to have both HBO Go and Xbox Live Gold subscriptions.
“HBO and Xbox is a marriage of the two preeminent brands in their respective fields,” said Otto Berkes, senior vice president of Consumer Technology, HBO. “During my tenure at Microsoft, we always envisioned Xbox as an entertainment hub and the addition of HBO Go represents a coming of age for the platform. The experience is one that will impress both the HBO subscribers and the Xbox fans.”
