Ever since Android Pay launched, Google Wallet has been something of a second class citizen. Now Wallet is losing one of its features: Google is killing the physical Wallet Card.
For those not familiar, the Wallet Card allowed you to use your Wallet balance at regular retail outlets – it’s basically a glorified debit card. But since Google Wallet has now transitioned to being a money-transfer service like Venmo
To be clear, Google isn’t just disabling any new Wallet Card orders; users won’t be able to add money to their Wallet Balance after May 1, and the cards will stop working on June 30. The company says American Express and Simple offers similar features, and that they will provide sign-up bonuses for anyone who switches over.
