After launching Google Street View in May 2007 in only 5 U.S. cities, Google Street View has come a long way.
Since that initial launch, Google has added 360-degree panoramic views to places around the world, fascinating most of us, frustrating some, and drawing the ire of a select few.
Today via a post on their blog, Google has announced that Street View imagery is available on all seven continents, today adding Brazil, Ireland and Antarctica. Now one can see images from around the world from the hottest of the hot places, to the coldest of the cold places.
According to the post:
“We often consider Street View to be the last zoom layer on the map, and a way to show you what a place looks like as if you were there in person—whether you’re checking out a coffee shop across town or planning a vacation across the globe. We hope this new imagery will help people in Ireland, Brazil, and even the penguins of Antarctica to navigate nearby, as well as enable people around the world to learn more about these areas.”
If you want to view more great sites from around the world, visit the Street View gallery and get your fix.
I love Google Street View and can’t wait to explore the new features. Your thoughts?
